Mythbusters: Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide
Sunday, 09 June 2013 14:50
Just because my "conscience is clear", it doesn't mean I'm "in the clear" with the Holy Spirit and Scripture. My conscience doesn't tell me if I'm violating God's standards as much as my own standards. Moving from a thermometer of the culture to a thermostat in the culture is about trust. Our questions are: Can I trust you? Can I make this climb?
Mythbusters: God Brings Good Luck
Sunday, 02 June 2013 08:45
1. Do I treat Jesus like my talisman (good luck charm) or as the Savior of Man?
Work through this God-Good-Luck Charm Checklist:
__ When things are tough or not fair I talk to God
__ When I pray its mostly about me and my wants and needs
__ I’m a big fan of God when things are going well in my life
__ I expect God to keep up His end of the bargain even if I haven’t
__ I make most of my decisions on my own without asking God
2. Is my faith more wishful thinking than Kingdom thinking?
3. Do I tend to count my blessings before counting the cost of following Christ?
Mythbusters: Forgive and Forget
Sunday, 26 May 2013 08:39
How do we get past the fact that we can’t forget the sin? God can, but we cannot. Matt 18:21f – forgive 70 × 7. That’s why we have to forgive over and over again, because we cannot forget.
Who is it that wants us to stay in unforgiveness? God or the Accuser (Satan)?
When the offense happens, we have a choice. We can let the “millstone” hang around our neck, or forgive and heal. What choices have you made in the past?
Ecclesiastes – there is a time for everything. Bad stuff will happen.
Sometimes forgiving ourselves is the hardest thing to do. 2 Sam. 11 & 12 – David & Bathsheba. Also Psalm 51 – David’s prayer of lament. David ends up worship, but he will always remember what he did.
Have you forgiven yourself?
John 20:19f – After the resurrection, Jesus asks the Father to forgive us, but his scars are still there on his hands.
The Genesis question when the Serpent says, “Did God really say it like that?” He didn’t really mean you needed to forgive everythign did He?
Will you allow this lie to hold the power over you?
#lovenfiltered: Worship
Sunday, 19 May 2013 08:33
Music is just a small piece of worship. It's not just signing or playing an instrument. It is giving your best; giving your heart, soul, mind, and strength. It is how you tithe, volunteer, fast, obey, study, pray - how you live to honor the Lord.
#lovenfiltered: We Are All E.G.R's
Sunday, 12 May 2013 10:35
How to love an EGR: 1. In Humility – seeing yourself, and others, the way God does. How can we set aside ourself to love someone? (Phil 2:2-7), James 2:1-6 (Message). Do we play favorites? Is there a hierarchy in God’s kingdom? (The first shall be last) 2. With patience and hard work. Ephesians 4:2 and Colossians 3:12-14. Bearing with one another means holding up, supporting. How can you minister in the opposite spirit to mean people? Or against the spirit of offense? (We are easily offended in the church. What is the opposite? Acceptance, humility?) Who do I need to bear with and be patient with? Is there someone I am running from because its too hard to deal with them? 3. By Learning their Story (2 Cor. 3:18) Is there a friendship I might be missing out on because I’m just looking on the outside? 4. By extending the grace you have been given. See how Jesus did it. Ephesians 5:1,2 “In every encounter we either give life or we drain it. There is no neutral exchange.” Brennan Manning. Am I an E.G.R.? Consider the grace God has extended to you.
#lovenfiltered: Intersections Pt. 3
Sunday, 05 May 2013 10:30
Jesus meets at the intersection of weary and willing, at the intersection of loss and love, and at the intersection of ignoring and interacting. Our connection keys are to spend time having Perceptive Conversations, praying Present Tense Prayers, and simply Paying It Forward.
#lovenfiltered: Follow The Leader
Sunday, 28 April 2013 09:16
Living to please Christ in all we do. Are you trying to lead Jesus? Let God lead you in being a leader.
Attitude while serving (L.A.B.O.R.)
- Lovingly. With respect and fear and with sincerity of heart. Are you showing love and respect to those under or over you?
- Ardently. Not only when eyes are on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
- Beautifully. Wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.
- Optimistically. Knowing that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether slave or free.
- Respectfully. And Masters treat your slaves the same. Since you know that you serve the same master in heaven who shows no favoritism. First things first. How’s your relationship with God (vertical)? How’s your relationship with others (horizontal)? Is there something you’ve been whining to God about and you just need to grow up?
#lovenfiltered: It's Opposite Day!
Sunday, 21 April 2013 09:10
Love unfiltered is the opposite of what we feel. See the Beatitudes: Luke 6:27-33. Exceptions to the rule? The “golden rule” (v. 31) isn’t optional. Are there exceptions to the “golden rule” for you? Are there people whom you have chosen for this rule to NOT apply? Love unfiltered is the opposite of what we deserve. An enemy of God is called “child”. Is there an enemy of God you need to pray for? Luke 6:34-36, Col. 1:21-23. Who are your “hopeless cases”? Love unfiltered is the opposite of what’s expected: an unstoppable conspiracy of kindness. Romans 12:14-21. What would your Opposite Day" activities look like?
#lovenfiltered: A Love That Lasts
Sunday, 14 April 2013 22:34
When it comes to covenant relationship, don't start what you can't stop, stop whining and start working, and begin by keeping the end in mind. Covenant benefits remind us to enjoy the season we are in, that God hears our prayers, and that our eternity informs our present.
Love Unfiltered: Intersections Pt. 2
Sunday, 07 April 2013 11:00
Jesus meets at the intersection of abstract and actual, at the intersection of indifference and involved, at the intersection of doubt and delight. When we meet Jesus at those intersections we connect when we wake up, get up and show up.
