I knew when I woke up this morning what I wanted to share for my “God thought”:
“Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!’ The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for him and seek him.”- Lamentations 3:21-25
This passage is particularly powerful when you also read the verses that precede it. Jeremiah begins chapter 3 going over all his afflictions and sorrows. His “suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words” (vs 19). He feels in in his heart and all his circumstances dictate to him he should be in great mourning and depression. Yet, he dares still to hope. His hope is the same as ours. It’s not in our luck, in our great efforts, or our sheer will that we can rely on. Our Hope is Jesus.
“His mercies begin afresh each day” – I cannot be thankful enough for that. Yesterday had it’s ups and downs, and the downs were not so pretty. Today will have challenges of it’s own. But I am confident and relieved in the knowing that my Savior’s love for me is without end. His faithfulness is great. And today holds a new opportunity for me to grab a hold of his outpouring of mercy on my life.
I choose today to hope in Him and His working in and through my life. Thank you, Father, for the gift of Jesus, our Hope!
